So as you know I decided to put together an “Anything Helps Kit” to help someone in need. Today was MY lucky day, because the man I had mentioned before was standing by the freeway off ramp once again holding his sign. As I was approaching the intersection the light turned green. There were about 4 or 5 cars ahead of me and no one was behind me, so I rolled down my window and slowed down so he could see me. As soon as he noticed my window down and my little “Anything Helps Kit” out the window, he approached my car and grabbed the bag. He said “Thank you, and God Bless” and I wished him a lovely day. He had a smile on his face as I drove away.
I have to admit that I was not sure how he was going to react by me offering something other than money, but my actions were received with gratitude and what I took from that small interaction is that it really takes very little to brightens someone’s day and I want to be able to do that many more times. I told Adam that I want to continue doing the “Anything Helps Kits” Even if I make a couple every month and hand out whenever I see someone that needs it, it can make a difference and it really doesn’t required a lot of effort or time.
And even though I may not be religious, I am truly blessed to be able to have a roof over my head, and food on my table. It is something that sometimes we take for granted, and we should be grateful for it. Also we shouldn’t turn our backs on those less fortunate, because we don’t know their stories nor their struggles. So if you have some time and want to brighten up someone’s day make a Kit and hand it out.
