A day trip to Bend, OR
A couple of weeks ago Adam and I decided to take a trip to Bend for the 27th anniversary celebration of Deschutes Brewery. I know what some of you are thinking, Why not just go to their Portland Public House for the celebration? It’s only 15 minutes from our house and it would be easier than taking a 4 hour car ride, but we did not want to miss out on all the fun that there was to have in Bend. That particular weekend was the weekend where temperatures were high and we did not want to leave Wollie at home. So we all woke early and decided to go on our Bend adventure.
By the time we got to Bend the Deschutes celebration was still hours away, so we decided to visit a few places while we killed time. Our first stop was Boneyard Brewing, they didn’t have a patio or a place for Wollie and I to hang out so we walked around the neighborhood while Adam tried some beers. After a few minutes Wollie and I walked back and hung out by the door. The staff was friendly and gave us a free sample and a few stickers since I mentioned I was putting some on a small growler I’m trying to decorate. Wollie got a few compliments from people there and must have been so well behaved that Adam got him a Boneyard collar.
Our next stop was ATLAS Hard Cider Company. When Adam and I first moved to Oregon I bought a growler of their cider at Portland’s Saturday Market and was really happy with it. Every since, I always try to sample their stuff whenever I see it at a local bar. So I was super excited to visit their taproom.
As we were walking towards their taproom you can notice their cute patio. It was nice to know that we could have a few drinks and hang out with our dog in their friendly dog patio. I absolutely loved their place, it looks so nice from the outside, but the inside is even better.
They have a beautiful layout, and their decor is straight out of a magazine. It’s incredible, I wish we had more time to hang out more, but there were other places to see on our trip. I do want to go back again and hang out a bit longer. They have a lot of arcade games, a pool table, nice lounge area, and of course amazing cider.
Something I love about Bend is that there are so many breweries and taprooms within walking distance to each other that the party never ends. Wollie, Adam and I headed to Crux Fermentation Project, who turns out was celebrating their 3rd anniversary and Cruxapalooza was in full effect.
Live music, delicious food and beer was a good combination to enjoy the 90 degree weather we were having.
After a few hours of hanging out and drinking beer, we decided to not end the party there and visit Good Life Brewing Company. Their patio is dog friendly and they have a lot of room.
Wollie was actually really happy just enjoying the sun. He had some snacks, and water. We hung out on our little blanket under a tree while we listened to some live music and enjoyed our beers.
Finally at 4pm we made our way to Deschutes Brewery to partake in their 27th anniversary celebration aka their Golden Birthday! We ordered a flight of Black Butte XXIII to XXVII.
Because there is no birthday celebration without cake, all the guest got to try a delicious chocolate bacon cake. It was very rich in flavor and it paired well with the beer.
All guest also got a pair of Golden Glasses to be part of the Golden celebration.
And just like that our day came to and end and we headed back to Portland. Our trip to Bend was short, but we made the most of it. We can’t to go back and visit all the other cool places.
