My cousin Alex, Adam and I took a trip to Kamakura to see 大仏 The Great Buddha. To get to Kamakura we took the train also walked about to 1.5 miles to get to 大仏. On the way there we visited another 2 smaller temples.
The Great Buddha is a bronze statue that was built in 1252 and it sits on the grounds of the Kotokuin Temple in Kamakura. I was amazed at the size of the statue, it was surprisingly larger than what I had expected. This is the second largest statue in Japan. I believe the largest one is in Nara at Todaji Temple.
Alex and I paid 20 yen to go inside the statue, which was really cool to see how the structure stands, but the temperature inside it’s extremely hot, that they created vents in the back of the structure.
